This November you can catch the 3-day version of my Architecture with Agility course and workshop in London at SDD Deep Dive. This is the only time this year I'll running it as a public course, so don't miss your chance!

My story for Physics World, "Heisenberg (not) in Helgoland: where two paths diverge", is now online: https://physicsworld.com/a/heisenberg-not-in-helgoland-where-two-paths-diverge/

Spring Flight

"Big cousin Lizzy said it was all tall stories and make-believe when Gwyn had asked how many times she’d flown. Lizzy had said it was a story for babies. She’d said the swallow was just a migratory bird and spring was just a consequence of Earth’s axial tilt. She’d said there was no such thing as magic. Gwyn had cried."

I was asked to write a story for
commemorating the centenary of quantum theory. You can find it on pages 56-57 of their Quantum Briefing (https://physicsworld.com/p/magazine/archive/physics-world-quantum-briefing-2025/) and in the attached image.

Second, don't be surprised when users log back in. Don't flag it as needing a security check... especially when they log back in using the same software on the same devices at the same location as they always do.

So no, Dropbox, there is nothing new about this browser or how I'm using it.

When you make a claim, support it with evidence, i.e., learn to manage the data you keep about users. If you don't know how to do this, your security is probably not as good as you think it is.

Yes, you would have noticed this Dropbox, but why are you checking with me?

Unlike the Spanish Inquisition, you should have expected this: You signed me out, after all.

What did you expect me to do? Remain signed out forever? 🤷‍♂️

@kevlin I've read
Finnegans Wake by James Joyce by thinking about it ;)
@kevlin I mean, you don't need LLM for that...

@kevlin FWIW, the one book that really opened my eyes to what reading is at a deep level, it was this one: Reader, Come Home, by Maryanne Wolf. Well worth a <ahem> read if you haven't already. On paper. With real pages.

@thirstybear Thanks for the recommendation! I hadn't come across this book before.
@kevlin try that with House of Leaves lol
@kevlin Do they save hours by getting ChatGPT to summarise sex for them?
@jasongorman @kevlin Hours, you say?
@jezhiggins @kevlin You can choose your own denominator
@jasongorman @kevlin
I believe there are already websites that do that.
@kevlin one of my favorite Woody Allen quotes is: "I took a speed-reading course and read War and Peace in twenty minutes. It involves Russia."
