If this goes how I expect it to go, get ready for another big surge in Mastodon's popularity.
I really enjoyed this conversation with A. O. Scott about why he's leaving his job as chief film critic at the New York Times. Sometimes there's a beautiful clarity in giving up.

Great website with a feed of everything produced by and about the Webb Telescope, including raw images.

Despite everything I think I still prefer Twitter to Mastodon simply because Twitter is where people are (at least for now). It's like the difference between a big city that might be a dangerous and corrupt but still fun, and a small town that's safe and boring.
I find it strange when people post stuff on Mastodon like "This place isn't about scale or mass adoption." I think one of the best things about Twitter is scale and mass adoption. A critical mass is needed in order for interesting subcultures to intermingle with a broad national/global conversation. Small clubs are good too, but that's what group chats are for.
