Police kill more Americans than active shooters do and should be disestablished for that reason alone. 1/3rd of all homicides are by police. Homicide by police is the largest single category of homicide. Yet, police have only 2% of all the firearms in this country. To me, those statistics are staggering. We have actually, by several objective metrics, reached the point where police commit more crimes than the "criminals" do. American society is just experiencing whiplash catching up to the numbers because many of us don't want them to be true. Which is understandable, we have put a huge amount of collective trust in these institutions and it sucks to be betrayed.

Defunding the police isn't about idyllic utopias, it's about stopping the ongoing racialized mass-murder that doesn't actually protect anyone's community. Where I live, the police are a bigger social problem than any gang or mafia.

Defund, disarm, disband.

Damn. All I'm saying is, they're fools for not demanding Reddit pay them lol. Fuck scabs in any context, I guess.
Who are the scab mods who are coming in? Are they getting paid?
And that is why Waze has to go away. It's giving people info on cops, so that's becoming politically inconvenient for Google.
You're not wrong, but it's an interesting point you bring up. They were willing to stay on Twitter with Musk's antics, but it seems like they aren't willing to put up with another Musk and another set of antics.
Unequivocally yes. You are clearly not engaging in good faith and tolerance of malicious disinfo is basically the main problem currently facing our culture.

I journal and take notes regularly by hand and have written novel-length manuscripts in the last couple of years by hand. I prefer using fountain pens or else my hand cramps up. I don't know if it's better for my memory, but I prefer it for other reasons.

My process is to write a first draft by hand to minimize digital distractions. I take my notebook and pen somewhere without internet, and leave my laptop and phone behind. Then, I type it up, and this is a sort of "natural" 2nd draft process, as I obviously make smaller or larger edits as I'm re-reading my own work.

My mom still has notebooks from when she was in high school. Digital amnesia means I don't have any of my high school and college homework anymore. My teachers and professors asked me to email stuff in and I didn't think to keep the files, nor do I have access to any of those computers or computer systems or email accounts anymore.

When I said that I typed a manuscript up, I mean I type it up on my typewriter. Computers are fine for fun and games but my professional creative and academic writing happens totally offline. I'll finally type it up into my computer for submission to publishers. Digital media is great because it moves so quickly, but that's kind of a double edged sword as well, it can also be very ephemeral.

Digital media is great for moving fast and breaking things, so you can take them apart and fix them again, but that's not my preferred way to write novels. I developed this system because realized I was putting a lot of effort into managing digital backups of all of my drafts and shit when simple folders and stacks of paper would do fine.

Heroin, amphetamines, alcohol, and cannabis all have genuine medicinal uses, and also all can be abused depending on context. Drug consumption is a fine, value-neutral term, which can refer to both their use and abuse.
Horrifying. Rest in peace.
Someone I know got a Linus Bike Dutchi 3i awhile back and honestly I wasn't really that stoked at first but -- I was wrong, it's pretty amazing. I've even thought about getting one. At first I thought they were just about the aesthetic but it's the real deal. Just a rock solid basic bike for running errands in town. If you don't mind, or prefer, single speed they have also have a barebones fixie/SS model for less $$.
