Cameron Lamb's mom and stepdad, Laurie and Aquil Bey, spoke on the steps of the Jackson County Courthouse on Friday after the sentencing of Eric DeValkenaere, who fatally shot Lamb in 2019.

Eric DeValkenaere, who was convicted in November of involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action in the fatal shooting of Cameron Lamb, will remain free for now — the judge granted the former officer bond while he appeals the case.

There is currently no active threat and no reports of injured students, according to the Olathe Police Department. The suspect, an 18-year-old male student at Olathe East, was shot and injured.
