Sharing this so you don't make the same mistake I did: Don't mix international and domestic travel in the same booking with a carrier (and one of their partner carriers). It's a nightmare to manage, and absolutely not worth the flexibility you lose.

I'm not a huge fan of the manifestation of Christmas, but I appreciate the reflection that it has granted me. I adore my kids and the family that I've chosen. I'm working to find the optimism and hope that I used to deprive myself of. I hope that in the coming years that I can support others and find joy in preparing for my future abroad. It almost feels like we're not supposed be stuck in homes located in cities for work and play. I really want to be outside.
It's been a few weeks since I stopped reading the news. My social media time (all platforms, combined) is down to about 10 minutes a day. the effects of this are now starting to emerge. I used to just fill my lunch and other idle time just consuming others' content. In recent days, I've been studying Japanese consistently again, using Ableton again, and catching up on video games. I went to the gym last night for the first time in months. My anxiety is settling. Progress...

I remember when #BsidesPDX was 90 attendees and a tiny budget. We coalesced at the Jupiter Hotel, the HVAC drowning out the speakers. I remember us paying too much for internet, talking to Gene Kim outside, dealing with a borderline predator that was speaking. We drank Kraken while stuffing the attendee bags.
Now it's this big thing, with a board and corporate budgets. Pretty crazy! I'm choosing not to attend this year because I'm focused on tighter connections, but so proud of what it is now.
