Syb and I spent the morning exploring misty, frosty woods and fields, with plenty of crispy grass for her to roll about in ecstatically. Now it’s snowing quite firmly and that feels like a deeper magic still.
Since December began, all of four days ago, it has been a slow and candlelit descent into now, a day in which it is half past three and I have yet to either get dressed or leave the house, or eat anything much beyond chocolates.
@InconsistentPedant Me too! I read it last night and feel much more ENGAGED with December as a result
I found the first book in Susan Cooper’s The Dark is Rising series in the little free library and have taken it As A Sign to finally read it! (Especially TDIR, which I see people tweeting about every December). I never read it as a child and neither as an adult - my hiraeth Christmas snowy faves were always The Children of Green Knowe and Alison Uttley’s Stories for Christmas.
@MrMisfit Reading that account, he had as good an end as could be wished for given the severity of the disease. These advances seem to be more for people in the very early stages - all fingers crossed that these developments keep progressing because it’s truly astonishing!
I’m off to Norwich to interview Rob Wilkins about his excellent Terry Pratchett biog and, just like the last time I did this, there is an extraordinary piece of good news on Alzheimer’s research out today. This is just the most wonderful/bittersweet coincidence. #GNUTerryPratchett
Evidence that dogs are NPCs:
- Always perform the same greeting when you walk into their room
- On walks, they stand around breathing at you until you perform an interaction, such as giving them an item from your bag?
- Take you on optional side quests through a narrow gap in some bushes
- Interacting with them has a 25% chance of triggering a rewarding cut scene
@katbrown GO GO GO GO GO JILLIES!
Tonight! 8pm BBC Two, a literary battle for the ages as Jilly Cooper meets Terry Pratchett in #OnlyConnect. It’s The Jillies v The Morporkians!
I feel increasingly guilty about Sybil being introduced in the hospital as “a therapy dog” given that her special therapeutic skills amount to lying on the floor with her paws in the air and making satisfied grunting sounds when people rub her tummy, and then looking disapproving when they stop.
