The Metropolitan Museum of Art Puts 490,000 High-Res Images Online & Makes Them Free to Use

Update: The Metropolitan Museum of Art has put online 492,000 high-resolution images of artistic works. Even better, the museum has placed the vast majority of these images into the public domain, meaning they can be downloaded directly from the museum’s website for non-commercial use.

Despair? There's no time you have work to do! As for me I'm going to lie down in this puddle and be miserable. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/picture/2025/jul/16/i-am-prone-to-fatalist-climate-doomerism-but-is-it-really-too-late

I hate how it's considered socially acceptable for a rich person to ask for money (they're an entrepreneur and you're investing), but if a homeless person asks for money, it's a scam and giving them $20 so that they can eat their first meal of the day is unjust and you should be donating to a homeless shelter or charity instead

Our state government planned to spend $10m+ on fixing the safety issues on Kerferd Rd, introducing a new protected bike lane, beautiful landscaping, and slowing down vehicle speeds by design. The local councillors scuttled it. We've FOI'd the never released plans to show what could have been. 1/5

The huge cost to state budgets of failing GST - The Australia Institute

New Australia Institute research shows that if the GST had kept up with economic growth, as it was intended to do, states and territories would have received an additional $231 billion in revenue in the time since it was introduced. That includes $22 billion in lost revenue in 2023-24 alone. The decline of GST revenue has

I contacted Transport Victoria about the Flemington Rd bike lane being too narrow and that it encourages overtaking motorists to not give the legally required 1m passing distance since it's a busy road and drivers are reluctant to change lanes if that means stopping to merge.

After 3 months I got this very disappointing and frankly insulting response.

"Hello Jesse,

Thank you for raising your concern with Transport Victoria, regarding a Bicycle Lane on Flemington Road. I apologise for the delay in responding to your enquiry.

While all Victorians are encouraged to participate in active transport, especially for local trips, I also acknowledge that not all roads can accommodate the highest level of service for all modes. Planning, operating, and maintaining Victoria's extensive road network is a complex task that necessitates balance to ensure the safe and efficient movement of people and goods.

During instances where a bicycle rider is present in the bike lane on Flemington Road between the Citylink off-ramp and Racecourse Road, vehicles would need to maintain a safe distance and one metre gap between the vehicle and the bicycle (given the speed limit is 60 km/h). All road users are encouraged to drive to the conditions present, including weather and various users in the vicinity.

I can confirm that this section of Flemington Road between the Citylink off-ramp and Racecourse Road, forms part of the Strategic Cycling Corridor (SCC) network.

There are currently no immediate plans to upgrade this section of road, however Transport Victoria will continue to monitor the network and prioritise active transport network improvements based on strategic and safety needs of the state."

That’s one hell of an article title. And one hell of an image in the article. “Call to drop Range Rover sponsorship of Wimbledon as SUVs 82% more likely to kill children.” Good idea. www.londondaily.news/call-to-drop...
