1,000 Lego sets attack

I explain and contemplate a double spending attack that targets many low-value transactions instead of few high-value transactions.

I'm prepared to stand corrected.

1,000 Lego sets attack

How double spending 1000 low-value Bitcoin transactions instead of a few high-value transactions can give an attacker a higher chance of success.

It's been a few years since I last fiddled with iptables. Now there's a new kid on the block:

nftables

Should I switch? Will I regret trying? I'm only doing basic stuff like NAT and port forwarding.

Banks are reverse ransomware.

Ransomware locks you out of your data and requires a payment to release it.

Banks lock you out of your money and require your private data to release it.

In both cases, there is no guarantee that they will honour their side of the contract, and sometimes, they just don't.

OMG! I can't believe my @[email protected] book Grokking #Bitcoin was just sent off to printing! Expect release in about four weeks! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿฅณhttps://www.manning.com/books/grokking-bitcoin
Grokking Bitcoin

If you think Bitcoin is just an alternative currency for geeks, it's time to think again. Grokking Bitcoin</i> opens up this powerful distributed ledger system, exploring the technology that enables applications both for Bitcoin-based financial transactions and using the blockchain for registering physical property ownership. With this fully illustrated, easy-to-read guide, you'll finally understand how Bitcoin works, how you can use it, and why you can trust the blockchain.</p>

Very interested thread on "quantum resistance". Pretty much common sense, but needs to be said.

I've recently noticed an uptick in claims of "quantum resistance" from cryptocurrency projects. This thread explains how to differentiate which are BS and which are legit.

Seems like my old contraction timer for Android is still around. Never give birth without it! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.rosenbaum.varktimer&hl=en
Contraction Timer - Apps on Google Play

Keep track of contractions when giving birth. Lists start time, duration of contracions as well as the interval between contractions. You can easily predict when the next contraction starts and for how long it will last, as well as predict when the current rest is about to end. Features: * Easy, one-button interface! * Unlimited undo * Shows averages over as many contractions as you like * Send stats, for example via email, for viewing or processing elsewhere * Timings, including current, survives restarts and crashes. * Keep display on * New simpler history view, that only displays averages. This is the default * Choose between simple history view and details history view. * Progress bar to give visual feedback on when to expect the next rest or contraction. * Sound and/or vibrate feedback on button press * Languages supported: English, Swedish and French (sacrebleu!).

80's country music is indistinguishable from 80's pop.

Change my mind.

You often hear that the blockchain is #bitcoin's database. I'd say that the UTXO set is the database. The blockchain is just the history of all database update commands (BTC transactions = DBMS transactions).

Take a deep breath.

10 years ago, some guy released some code & a 9 page whitepaper.

This code bootstrapped itself into the most powerful computer network in history.

Casually redefined money.

Then slurped up 100s of billions of dollars.

Oh and itโ€™s 100% self funded.

This tweet made me wonder: if we actually printed the dependencies of a "hello world" create-react-app app, how tall would the stack of paper be? Let's calculate. https://twitter.com/thomasfuchs/status/1103700462107164672
