BigsurkateMONTEREY / SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTIES – Due to rockslides at multiple locations, a full closure of Highway 1 is in effect from Ragged Point in San Luis Obispo County to 2.5 miles south of Big Sur in Monterey County.
At present there is no expected time for reopening.
Highway 1 was closed initially late yesterday due to a slide at PM 32, just south of Esalen.

Caltrans D5 (bot)Highway 1 is closed this morning from Ragged Point to south of Big Sur due to rockslides. Caltrans is working to clear the highway. Debris will be removed tomorrow behind the catchment at Paul’s Slide where it has reached the top of concrete barriers. No estimate for re-opening.
