I wrote a new blog post:

https://www.innoq.com/en/blog/2026/05/agentic-engineering-product-discovery/

If we can deliver faster than before, we should stop putting pressure on the system and use the freed capacity for product discovery work instead of producing yet more output.

Using the space, not optimizing the treadmill

Features per unit of time is not a meaningful metric. What counts is whether they satisfy a real user need and contribute to a desired outcome. Agentic development opens up the space to finally take that seriously.

@odrotbohm @innoq Yep. Unfortunately that second step often never happens or is just a tiny step forward.
@curious_reader2501 Hey, Andreas! Nein, seine Posts habe ich nicht gesehen. In welche Richtungen gehen sie denn?
I wrote a new blog post about the wave of modernization projects and simultaneous rise of domain-driven design:
https://www.innoq.com/en/blog/2026/04/accidental-complexity-in-the-heart-of-software/
Accidental Complexity in the Heart of Software

Domain-Driven Design went mainstream over the last ten years – in parallel with a wave of digitalization and modernization projects. That is not a coincidence. And it explains a lot about why so many of these projects fail to deliver what they promise.

⚙️ Why did one AI interaction pattern score 86% comprehension while another hit just 24%?

@kaffeecoder uses cognitive load theory to explain: when AI handles implementation, all your mental capacity goes to understanding – decisive under time pressure.

But he warns: the study's 35-minute limit amplified this effect. Real-world learning may need different patterns.

@eikelang That’s probably true. Ho early when we collaborated remotely we mostly did so by just screen sharing in Zoom. The JetBrains announcement was still a trigger for me to think about how the emergence of coding assistants changed how we collaborate. 😊
