Congratulations to our fourth-years who've had their final exams this week! Come see their work at the Graduation Show July 3-8th!
One-day pop-up exhibition this Friday May 30th by our 2nd years of Corner Collective: ‘mapping de corner’. It explores how each participant has defined their own «corner»—whether personal, political, conceptual, or spatial—through photographic work.
Starting in Gallery 3, and continuing in Gallery 4, PB.101, and BD.111, the show invites you to navigate a visual map of diverse perspectives and creative practices. Exhibition is the result of 'Constructing Spaces' project led by curator Samira Damato.
Poster design: Zuzanna Antonina Wieczorek.
Student Highlight - Siem Teast. Siem is a Year 2 student of our part-time compact programme.

His series ‘In the act’ is using circus aesthetics, loud colours and props to highlight a strange tension between fun and discomfort. The scenes are theatrical, a bit ridiculous, and very deliberate. Treating identity as something performed, something we step into, get handed, or sometimes hide behind — the circus becomes a metaphor for how easily we slip into roles, how performance can feel like reality, and how easy it is to lose ourselves in the act.
⏳ One week left!

Would you like to develop your independent practice in a wide field of photography? Our four-year BA study programmes — full-time & part-time compact — help you to define your interests and solidify your original and informed photographic voice through image-making, meaning-making and sharing the stories of our worlds.

Application deadline: May 1st!

Some of recent part-time alumni include:

1. Onyx Hani Chladilová - from ‘Our Call’, graduation project 2023.
2. Alexander Namrok, from ‘The place we go to fight is where we learn to love’, graduation project 2024.
3. Helena Roig - installation shot ‘Existing online is selling our bodies’, graduation project 2023.
4. Spyros Chalikias - from ‘Vespertine’, graduation project 2024.
A portrait of a KABK tutor: Ari Versluis @ari_versluis

Although I had never met this lecturer before, I immediately spotted him among the group of people having lunch outside in the sun. Red pants, an oversized sweater, and striking shoes. It’s photographer Ari Versluis’ thing: “Clothing expresses who you are.” Ari is a lecturer in the Bachelor Photography and the Master Photography and Society, but he also has an extensive portfolio as a photographer. Gucci, Palace, and G-star are among his clients. However, his life’s work, Exactitudes, might play an even bigger role in his career. A book featuring series of different people who look almost identical, photographed in the same pose against a neutral background.

As a teacher he advises students to engage in conversations with strangers. "Go to a store to buy something instead of ordering online again. Pick up the phone to call about an assignment instead of waiting around. By stepping out of your bubble and talking to people, you’ll find inspiration everywhere."

Opening this Friday Feb 28th: Exhibition by three students of Year 4 ‘Lens on law: Edges of proximity’ at West Den Haag. The exhibition is a result of a collaboration between KABK and the T.M.C. Asser Instituut. The projects connect international law, art and society in unexpected and exciting ways.

Anastasia Troshkova, in A Testimony of Birdwatching, investigates the dual use of consumer drones in modern warfare and their impact on international law. Using Polaroid imagery, she juxtaposes the detached gaze of drone operators with the visceral realities of their actions, prompting questions about accountability in an era of remote-controlled warfare.

Daria Radu demystifies the architecture of international legal institutions in The Hague in her work [RESTRICTED]. By capturing the human elements and hidden imperfections of buildings like the International Criminal Court and International Court of Justice, she probes the accessibility of justice and questions its reach beyond imposing facades.

Salome Erni delves into the contentious arbitration case between ExxonMobil and the Netherlands in her work inspired by the Groningen gas exploitation controversy. Her installation critiques the inaccessibility of investor-state dispute settlements (ISDS) and questions the alignment of legal frameworks with public interests amidst corporate and state dynamics.
