Mornin. Buttered biscuits with canned whole figs from my tree and/or fried eggs
The quiet genius of my Grandmother, Esther Fontenot Richard: At first I thought, why did she mark halfway? You can fill it. Then it occurred to me: the line is for filling it a second time so that you don’t overflow the bottom.
yep! that was it. Hmm. Always wondered if I could do luks that will work with either a password entry *or* a usb drive with key on it. that way if the fam needs to turn it on when I'm not here they can use a 'key' or I can leave it in there so it gets it on reboot, but pull it otherwise...
Glad I didn’t toss these out! Was worried my drive wasn’t showing up b/c of old firmware. Let’s hope it’s just this.

Alright. Definitely not specs to brag about :), but I'm kind of excited to get it going.

Going to move all the home files from my old he opterons (32x tho!) that I built entirely from donated and used parts to a new (refurbished from a DC) 10TiB drive. It's only < 8TiB of files spread across 4 disks, and the machine is so loud that the fam knows how to put it to sleep at night. It's a server board and chassis. I love it, but we need to move our movies and everything to something smaller and simpler. No backups on the 10TiB yet, but that doesn't bother me terribly. Thinking about moving the big server machine to the garage or something--maybe even have a cool ass scheduled job that turns it on and backs up stuff from the "hot" 10TiB to the server machine and then turns itself back off like a boss. I ran dragonfly BSD with JBOD and hammerfs and did similar stuff. You really don't need full on RAID for most things.

Food
Most of the take so far. Still going with the lower sugar syrup on the figs, but it seems strange to have such thin liquid in it. Gonna be a lil stingy with the pepper sauce because there’s so little and it’s all cayenne from one bush. It turned out great, though. Oh yeah it’s not just cayenne because they gave me a nice fresh red jalapeño at the Mexican restaurant and I diced it & added it to the mix.
h/t @aral Funny coincidence: My 7 year old son was asking me all about (censorship) ratings for TV and movies in the US. We went through "PG-13" and "R," "NC-17," and when we looked it up it had "X" and "XXX" but it turns out those aren't real ratings. He asked about them, though, and why they're named with "X" or many "X"s. I told him that it's common to use "X" when things are really bad or when you shouldn't use them at all. e.g., like in cartoons poison jugs are marked with "XXX" (he remembered that). And, we write "X" on things to cross them out. So, "X" usually means no one should see it/use it. That's before any of this rebranding of twitter, but as soon as I saw the rebranding, it reminded me of that conversation 😆 . Shoot, I'm glad I taught him that. Now he'll know to avoid twitter, too
I have processed so many raw materials this weekend: picking figs, canning, picking cayenne ,processing 🌶️ for oil and sauce, rolling tobacco, grinding coffee, grinding weed, rolling splifs…what can i say? I’m a country boy i reckon
