It's really easy to keep mastadon a nicer place.

Secret formula I've followed since the days of Fidonet, newsgroups, IRC, mailing lists, forums and.. Twitter :

Follow kind people.
People who contribute to conversation and share joy, fallibility and mischief.

It'll rub off on you.

On a visit to Joe Bussard’s legendary basement earlier this year I made this short video of him playing what he considered one of the greatest recordings of all time, Blind Willie Johnson’s “Dark was the night, Cold was the ground.” RIP Joe

Good morning. Here is Dora Wilson's c. 1920s painting 'Nude'. Wilson studied under Frederick McCubbin and was best known for her still lifes and nudes. Her work was praised for its "strong sense of colour" but criticised (I think unfairly) for its "chocolate box prettiness".

This is how Christmas looked in Ukraine before the Russian full-scale genocidal invasion: in Mariupol, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Lviv. You can help Ukrainians to win this war by urging your governments to help - and by donating! The list of recommended donations: https://twitter.com/sumlenny/status/1587456005788602368

“250 days of the Russian full-scale invasion have passed. Ukraine is defending everyone of us. I have decided to publish this THREAD with a call for donations for initiatives I personally know and some of them I met during my last Kyiv visit. All photos are mine from my trip 1/9”

On this day 50 years ago, Gough Whitlam was elected Prime Minister.

Medibank. The Racial Discrimination Act. Legal Aid. Free tertiary education, and more.

Gough brought in a new era and changed our country for the better.

Thank you Gough.

The government wants to build 20,000 pubic sector homes in 5 years - we need more than that

"Govern me harder daddy" is a conspiracist and far-right "NPC" meme. The Liberal party aren't just dog-whistling to fascists and Nazis, they're mainstreaming their messaging. In The Senate. Their defenders at the Anti-Defamation Commission will predictably be silent on this. https://twitter.com/6NewsAU/status/1598260686039437312

Healthcare workers are vital to Australia. It's pretty confronting to see all the evidence that demonstrates how predictable, harmful & widespread is the incidence of #burnout. Most HCWs are already very resilient. The problem is systemic - so are the answers. @AdhcAdel2022

Good morning. Here is Ambrose Patterson's 1903 painting 'Self-portrait in a studio'. Born in Daylesford, Patterson studied under E. Phillips Fox before moving to Paris and befriending Nellie Melba. He left for California in 1918 and eventually settled in Seattle.
