I saw the movie "She Said" in the theatre. An outstanding work. There's a lot of good journalism movies, but in my own rankings this might be the best. What it's best at is showing how the pursuit of a monster story is all-consuming. It invades every portion of your life. 1/

I never properly introduced myself when I joined Oct. 29.

I have been teaching #journalism at NYU since 1986. I have a PhD in media studies. My masters thesis was on McLuhan. My PhD thesis was about the concept of "the public."

I write a lot about press coverage of politics, and try to puzzle out what journalists as a group are thinking, which is why my site is called pressthink.org

I've been online since 1996. Been blogging since 2003. On Twitter since 2008.

Thanks for making Mastodon.

Many commentators are tweeting & tooting that we need to expand the SCOTUS. That is not the answer to everything. Unless you just want a larger Court, not bound by ethics rules, engaging in the kind of behavior described in the NYT piece. What we need are guardrails - an understanding that the Court sits w/i our democracy. Our job us to strengthen it by creating the processes that promote impartiality & insulation from lobbying, not crossing our fingers & hoping for the best.
