Uhhh.. why is Iggy Pop and co hanging out in the server room?
Duff McKagan shared a post on Instagram: "I'm so happy to be a part of @iggypopofficial brand-new-out-TODAY record, appropriately titled FRENZY! We got to play @jimmykimmellive today, and you can watch it on Monday. Iggy is the f*ckin GODFATHER, and I'm so proud to be a small part of his magnificent life and story.@chadsmithofficial @thisiswatt @pluralone_official". Follow their account to see 1211 posts.
@ramiro Oof. What round were you?
After waiting a 1.5 years for it, I was hoping I might end up with a v2/3/4 hardware rev.
Looks like I can self-host all of those for under $40/mo.
Managed equivalents are equal-priced or single-digit $/mo more.
All in all, not terrible if you care about owning your data and have the appetite to learn (and maintain) some sysadmin things.
Also, the svelte customer experience of whitelabeled services under your own domain. :)
Did some planning for services I want to self-host today (equivalents for Airtable, Zapier, and a web analytics service).
Suddenly understand why AWS has felt unapproachable for so long.
Choice of EC2 instance family + size revolves around:
- Architecture (x86_64, amd64, arm64)
- Memory
- Steady-state CPU usage
(in approximately that order)
Discovered:
- Baserow, 4GB, amd64 > t3a.medium
- n8n, .5GB, arm64 > t4g.micro
- Plausible, 2GB, arm64 > t3a.small
