What is the antonym of a ā€œmultidisciplinaryā€ designer? I’m curious because all of the designers I admire seem multidisciplinary to me. Has the qualifier become necessary?
The conundrum Z describes is real, and I feel it, but I emphatically refuse — I love my em-dashes. Always have. Always will. : ) https://front-end.social/@zeldman/116283865397734303

Abandon the em-dash in your human writing? The irony—and it’s a big irony—is that real writers use em-dash frequently, and for reasons. As a written signifier of verbal speech pauses, it means something different than what commas and semicolons mean. It connects while separating. That’s why so many writers use em-dash when it is the best mark for the job. And chatbots use it because they were schooled on millions of writers. 1/3

A video of juxtaposed views of Metro Manila just after sunset. First voiceover ever too.

okay, yes, this entire approach to ā€œaiā€ in the workforce is yet another instance of a tech CEO beclowning himself

at the same time: when a leader says human workers are a source of ā€œbottlenecksā€, and that automation is the source of ā€œsolutionsā€, pay very, very, very close attention

(and if you haven’t already, start getting organized with your coworkers)

Sitting on the terrace IN SHORTS and t-shirt with coffee at 7am. OK, OK, I have an insulated jacket on but STILL calling (temporary) Summer in the UK. C’mon! ā˜€ļø
Summer in the UK has arrived early (probably temporarily) but I’m calling it. Shorts and factor 30, me hearties!
ā€˜More computing power’ became ā€˜more compute’ at some point and it still sounds odd to me. I’m slowly ambling along with my ageing lexicon watching linguistic drift ride a Surron into the future.
Related to last: I still miss Works That Work magazine from @typotheque — 10 issues of an inspiring, wonderful magazine about ace ideas brought to life by amazing humans.
That feeling when, with a rush of tentative enthusiasm an idea emerges that might, just might, be something transformative and beautiful … but before it can even be evaluated it gets meeting-crushed by assertive but confused ā€˜feedback’.
