Happy National Coming Out Day. This last year has involved a lot of coming out for me! I came out as Joanna to my friends 10 months ago, then at work and to my family four months ago. I’m now out everywhere, and recently filed the paperwork so I’ll legally be Joanna in every aspect of my life. It can be hard - I lost my relationship with my parents in the process - but it’s much easier than trying to be someone I’m not.
The people I consider to be genuinely poly - those who are available for real, committed relationships, who value agency and autonomy for both themselves and their partners, and who will support your personal growth even if it complicates your relationship - are few and far between. I'm lucky to be dating one of them, and I feel sufficiently fulfilled that I don't feel the need to seek out another partner, even though I very much still consider myself to be poly. Weird how things work out, huh?
Confession - I've been poly for about 14 years, and at this point, I've lost patience with like 90% of people who call themselves poly. So many of them are married or pseudo-married people who will never give you the dignity of a real relationship, whatever they might say their intentions are. Or, they're single people looking for The One who are just having some fun before settling down.

Anyone else think that certain albums could be drastically improved just by cutting a few songs? Listening to Radiohead’s Hail to the Thief, which is not seen as their best album, but cut like three songs and it’s solid all the way through.

Hot take, unless you’re like a prog rock band, 40 - 50 mins is the optimal album duration. That happens to be the max duration of a vinyl record, but it still holds true even with CDs and MP3s. You don’t have to use the extra space just because it’s there!

Edit: changed Prop M to No. It's a fine measure by itself but it contains a poison pill against Prop L, which is more important.

It's election time in SF!

This one is tricky. I usually base my vote on housing, transit, and cycling, but this year there's the complication that some candidates I would usually support have problematic positions on Palestine. In addition to my usual go-to's of SPUR and SF YIMBY, I encourage you to read
