Highlights from seeing the #Barbie movie on opening night (no spoilers):

1) The power went out midway through the movie because there was a huge storm, and the entire audience absolutely lost their shit. The power came back on shortly after, and a theater employee announced that they were working on getting the movie playing again. Everyone clapped uproariously for him and shouted thank you. When the movie started back up, the whole audience lost their shit again, this time with joy.

2) The amount of pink clothing in the audience was Very Good. Also, when the credits finished and we were getting up to leave, a guy sitting behind us stood up and I overheard him say, “Oh, I forgot I was wearing a crop top!” I turned around and saw that he was wearing the most fabulous powder blue Ken crop top with a full-color picture of Ryan Gosling on it.

3) Outside the theater, there was a line to take pictures in front of the movie poster.

It's the next morning, and I'm still thinking about the #barbie movie.

Ladies, get yourself a guy like Alan. He's discontinued (aka one of a kind), looks exactly like Michael Cera (celebrity lookalike!), and is good at punching.

Not planning on seeing Oppenheimer any time soon. I’d honestly rather watch The Godfather again. (And if you’ve already seen Barbie, you’ll know that’s really saying something.)

Yes consumerism. Yes SAG-AFTRA strike. Yes Oppenheimer, I’m sure that movie was fun too.

But I just got back from seeing #Barbie and I’m proud to confirm everything the Republicans complained about is true. It’s an explicitly feminist musical comedy extravaganza filled with Barbie lore, and I don’t think that any movie I’ve seen has so profoundly captured my experience as an American woman raised on Barbie.

I laughed so much. I cried so much. Mostly I thought about how much I love my mom.
