@ddayen The Freedom Caucus is the same bunch that killed bipartisan legislation in 2013 on immigration & the border. They forced Boehner to agree not to hold a vote on any legislation that could pass, if a majority of R's didn't support it.
Of course the GOP strategy had been to let the Dems vote for it to preserve individual members' right wing bonafides. The Freedom Caucus gambit blew that up. The chaos at the border is entirely the Freedom Caucus' fault - a message D's need to drive.
@w7voa Note they assume he will begin his "tenure in Congress." Despite their toothless criticism, even the Republican Jewish Committee wants & expects the GOP to get the political benefit of seating Santos.

@mastodonmigration Political types like me are aware of Musk, Mastodon, etc. But I also follow sports, arts, local news, science, books, environmental, health etc etc. who are less looped in to what's happening. We need to encourage folks to cheer on their fave non-political accounts to come here.
"Drew Harwell/Aaron Rupar Day" bids fair to become a hinge event in social media history. I would expect the floodgates between Twitter and Mastodon are overwhelmed.
