German institutions have evidently given themselves the permission to decide what counts as antisemitism, even if, or maybe *especially* if, it means silencing Jews who are pro-Palestine. Ghassan Hage, by contrast, is an easy target for them, yet another Arab and/or Muslim they get rid of.
One of the many truths being exposed by Israel's ongoing genocide of Palestinians is the absolute commitment of Germany - as a state and represented by most of the country's institutions - to white supremacy, at the expense of virtually everything else.
The hegemonic logic right now in Germany is that Jews aren't real people with individual aspirations and disagreements and qualities and faults, like any other humans. They very clearly see their mission to protect Israel's genocide at all costs, even as it makes them look racist af.
I don't even see this anymore as Germans overcompensating for their historical guilt. I see this as Germans reaffirming their absolute commitment to a white supremacist project, one which is *inherently* antisemitic and racist, and using their own genocidal legacy as their excuse to do so.
The Max Plank Society starts off by recognizing that Dr Hage is renowned for academic excellence, and then proceed by saying that there's no space for racism and antisemitism in their space, implying that Dr Hage was racist or antisemitic. He is not. As for Germany, it absolutely is.
As so many have pointed out, Jews in Germany are actually being disproportionately targeted by German censors in the name of 'fighting anti-semitism'. The irony would be hilarious if it weren't so reckless and dangerous.
The amount of Arabs, Muslims, Jews, and so many PoCs discriminated against by German institutions since October 2023 can only lead a reasonable observer to conclude that 'educated' German society, once again, is engaging in a barely concealed white supremacist project. The latest example is the Max Plank Society firing renowned Lebanese-Australian academic Dr Ghassan Hage for his support of Palestinian freedom.

The renowned Lebanese-Australian scholar Ghassan Hage, who is highly acclaimed in the scientific community, has been working at the Max Planck Institute for Anthropology since April 2023. Recently, he has shared a series of posts on social media expressing views that are incompatible with the core values of the Max Planck Society. In agreement with the Institute, the Max Planck Society has therefore ended its working relationship with Prof. Hage.
