Captain of midlisting ship.

I wrote the CRY PILOT trilogy (Ace Books), MARIGOLD BREACH audio drama (with Jameela Jamil and Manny Jacinto!), a mess of novels under various names for Harper, Doubleday, S&S, etc.

And the novel of my heart, THE RAGPICKER, is forthcoming in 2024 from Meerkat Press.

Opinions unfounded.

(Avatar is a white-and-orange robot patting a smaller bot on the head.)

I bounced off MY YEAR OF REST AND RELAXATION, so happily assigned Moshfegh to my mental bin of 'Brilliant Young Genius Phenom Novelist Geniuses' about who I don't need to care.

Two days ago, I read her novella MCGLUE--which centers around a subject and period I find meh--and it's a breathtaking tour de force. Shockingly good. Her command of the page. There aren't enough superlatives.

I don't mind AIs scraping my books but now they're mining my sex appeal.
Does anyone have a spare invitation for getting off the internet and doing a little writing?
Just had an espresso so I could concentrate better, and now I am absolutely laser-focused on procrastinating.

I love the execs saying, "We just don't have the money to pay writers," like a restaurant saying, "We simply can't _afford_ edible ingredients."

Even if that were true it's not an excuse it's an admission.

I want a shirt that says, IF YOU CAN READ THIS, I'M INTROVERTING WRONG.

Instead of depressing other writers by sharing excellent publishing news, I am here for my people by announcing that yet again I am in receipt of shitty book news.

Watch this space for more!

You may not believe this, but my cat is hidden in this picture. He's pretty sure you can't find him.
I shouldn't be surprised that when a Republican man is told 'no' ten times in a row, he keeps trying.

#7books other people mentioned that I also love:

Girl In Landscape, Lethem.
Gaudy Night, Sayers.
Riddlemaster of Hed, McKillip
Persuasion, Austen
Linden Hills, Naylor
Finite and Infinite Games, Carse
Jeeves & Wooster books, Wodehouse

I really want to make a list of the #7books other people love and I hate, but I'm trying to leave my more prick-ish self on the other site ...
