Produced water from coal seam gas extraction at Arcadia and Fairview (in the Hallett State Forest) is gathered and directed to centralised water management facilities where it is stored for treatment and beneficial reuse. It is the structures that store this waste that are the focus of this Environmental Protection Order (EPO).

We are shocked to learn that Healthy Harold has partnered with gas company Santos as revealed in the Santos Newsletter Dec 2024. Gas extraction has been associated with unhealthy outcomes for host communities as well as health issues associated with household use.

The latest Water Technical Advisory Group meeting minutes on the Santos website are terrifying. Santos is walking further away from its commitment to monitor groundwater in the #Pilliga and the experts seem to be allowing this to happen. How can cumulative impact on groundwater be assessed when monitoring is so weak? Randall Cox from OGIA is not concerned.
