it feels like luhrmann has been wanting to do a movie about how much he hates colonel tom parker for his entire life and was just waiting for the perfect actor to play elvis. glad he waited because hot damn. this movie is only Actually Good because of austin butler’s fucking incredible performance but i can’t really say a whole lot of negative about it either. i was fucking glued to it the entire two hour and thirty nine minute runtime.
ok i genuinely wasn’t expecting to like that as much as i did. i went for a theatrical showing b/c (1) i like animation and am happy to see dreamworks stylistically branching out as hard as they are (2) i am a furry some takeaways - what the fuck how does the entire movie look like that - the plot falls into the same sort of villain twists you’d expect of a kid’s movie but it’s still fun to see play out - it’s a genuinely great Ocean’s 11 For Kids - finally, a true companion to robin hood (1973)
