How long until VFX artists start adding in fake diffraction spikes to make space look “real”? (Akin to the fake lens flares they add now.)

After frustration with the Switch virtual console (lag, sloppy d-pad on the pro controller) I hooked up my NES using an OSSC and a Koryuu. Lag was minimal, controllers were authentic. But I forgot how much better games look with NTSC artifacts.

NES artists would use difficult pairs of colors to cause additional colors and textures to appear. (Unfortunately it shimmers authentically while scrolling too.)
