Top Iran footballers Voria Ghafouri and Parviz Boroumand have been released on bail, after being arrested in the past fortnight. This may be an attempt to placate increasing Iranian and international anger in the wake of repression of protests.
Ghafouri had demanded the government cease attacks on rallies in Kurdish areas. He has previously criticised the ban on women watching men's football matches, and expressed sympathy with the family of Mahsa Amini.

Almost 2,000 manatees have died in Florida in two years, largely because of starvation as huge areas of the seagrass vegetation they eat have been destroyed by pollution.
Environmental groups are demanding the species be declared officially endangered again.
A program to feed manatees with lettuce funded by public donation is being relaunched.
