Following the academic exodus from Twitter because I'll miss the mini-classrooms the most. I live in BC, am a real human being and very much enjoy pictures of your pets. She/her.
On the one hand, I'm grateful we'll soon be pulling out of the -40s (celsius) soon. On the other, it looks like worse chaos to come in lieu of bitter cold. At least it is Christmas colours?

Easily one of the coolest things we have done as humans is creating massive digital archives accessible to anyone with an internet connection and a wandering mind. I think I'll start sharing some of my favourite finds on Mastodon.

Here's a painting of Anna Maria van Schurman by Jan Lievens. You can view it in hi-res at The National Gallery's website. 1/3

I’ve been enjoying the old school bird site vibe here, particularly the community of historians. I recently came across this beautiful brooch, circa 1900 by Robert Koch (source: https://www.christies.com/lot/lot-an-art-nouveau-enamel-and-gem-set-pendantbrooch). Given the time frame and the name, I was curious about the creator. I wasn’t able to find much.Short thread follows. Caveat: IANAH (is that a thing? Like IANAD?). #histodon #histodons 1/7
-30 celsius with the wind chill for the next few days so I made my dog fur boots and she hates me. But, I think I nailed the “make the boots stay on” part- the store bought always fall off. Adapted from this pattern… https://romprescue.com/2013/01/easy-diy-dog-boots/ #dogs #DogsOfMastodon

Drama on the bird site tonight, and this is the first time my feed has felt sort of the same as pre-the takeover in terms of content and volume.

Anyway, I recommend long walks in the snow with a friendly dog as a social media break. Some kind soul at my local off-leash dog park decorated a tree at the top of our hill and that was charming.

Still feeling this out but figured I would follow the trend and do a first post/intro with a pet picture. I work in post-secondary administration and I have a Master's degree in Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies (political science/history with a focus on genocide studies). I miss being a student terribly and regularly talk myself out of a late-in-life PhD. This is my doggo Nellie in a coat I made for her (I also enjoy sewing).
