Mirko SwillusThis week the European Commission published the draft for a guidance document for the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). It is 70 pages, but contains some helpful examples and flowcharts, like this one, making it accessible even to Open Source folks with limited time.
Here: Quick guidance for the question if your FOSS component is in scope for the CRA, and if so, wether you're deemed a steward or manufacturer in regards of the component.

- Don't have enough to afford essentials
- Rents the essentials
- Owns the essentials
- Owns someone else's essentials
I think folks in that third category need, as a whole, to recognize that they have more shared political interest with the first two categories than with the fourth.

We tried to use Nix to configure some 6000 apache vhosts. Turned out it would need hours and require more memory than running said 6k vhosts. -_-

grmpyprogrammerI am not the first person to point out that a âLudditeâ isnât someone who hates tech â they hated the EXPLOITATION OF PEOPLE by capital through the use of tech. Too many of my peers are on the wrong side of that and a lot of us are watching and making notes and will remember.
@littlefox what you would actually be aware of is the mounting rails and other structures to be strong enough to handle the amount of weight you would be installing in your sideways rack setup. Beyond that, nothing to worry about really. đ€·đŒââïž
@littlefox From technical perspective it would not matter much. Air cooled server HW is designed rely on fans to push the air through while convection and other factors make a marginal difference in cooling efficiency.
There are some high density top loaded HDD chassis designs that might get âinterestingâ to service while running, though. đ
My current desktop at home is nearly identical to a 4U rack server variant, but mounted sideways on a floor stand. It has a bit quieter fans by default, though.
