Oh boy, secure backups for Signal?

"As a nonprofit that refuses to collect or sell your data, Signal needs to cover those costs differently than other tech organizations that offer similar products but support themselves by selling ads and monetizing data.โ€

ADD TO SHOPPING CART, SO HARD.

This has been my biggest pain point with using it, and I'm so glad it's being addressed in a responsible way.

Introducing Signal Secure Backups

In the past, if you broke or lost your phone, your Signal message history was gone. This has been a challenge for people whose most important conversations happen on Signal. Hopefully the govt can figure out what happened and why, as from my understanding it was a major attraction.
After three years of being in person, this'll be the first time since RustConf has gone back to hybrid that I won't be physically there. So if you were hoping to catch me for any reason, send me a message instead! You can also find me in a few weeks in Paris at EuroRust, where I'll be presenting immediately after the opening keynote.
It's great to see how quickly this got picked up. It's already accounting for 86% of downloads

v0.3.42 of the time crate has been released.

Among other things, this includes `Time::duration_since`, `Time::duration_until`, a new extension trait, `core::error::Error` support, bug fixes, significant performance gains, and a dropped dependency.

The MSRV has been bumped from 1.65 to 1.81, which was released almost exactly one year ago. This is below the maximum permitted by policy of 1.87 (for public changes). Expect a few small MSRV bumps in the coming months.
