@MinuteLRM @palafo I think you're both right on the level of the sentence or paragraph. Reading aloud reveals flaws, yes, but it can also dim brilliance. And on the larger scale, oral storytelling and written storytelling are two very different beasts. I've tried to read the Odyssey several times to no avail. It occurs to me that an audiobook might be better. And while I'm sure there are audiobook recordings of Joyce's Ulysses . . . just no.
