Firefighters were criticized for allegedly using “women's handbags” to fight the fires. Such false or misleading claims, with a major focus on the city’s water supply, emerged amid general criticism about water management in California sparked by the fierce Los Angeles fires. And those are just a few of the deceptive claims. Misinformation has taken advantage of widespread fear and still unanswered questions, allowing those who spread it to further their own agendas.
