The trick to seeing if Mastodon takes off is if it ever becomes something that isn't mostly for people to talk shit on the service they want to leave. Call that Jeremy's Obstacle to New Social Adoption.

@janellecshane @sivy @chuckwendig I guess if the idea is to make an environment that features visual art better, with customization, you won't know if the audience is customized to see it better? But in general I like customization!
I'm resisting the urge to just post the same stuff here I post on Twitter.
@sivy @chuckwendig I'll throw my support behind this idea. It could be a way to help mastodon distinguish itself as more than a Twitter clone.
UI feels a bit clunky, if I'm being honest. Following someone requires a long progress bar to load at the top?
So I guess this is gaining traction then?
