“We know that time of true worship give us better perspectives on the matters that concern us. The things that bother us don’t seem quite as threatening when we quietly contemplate the greatness of our God and worship him.”

- Warren Wiersbe, On Earth As It Is In Heaven

“God’s leaders must be servants but not celebrities, directors but not dictators. They must never accept the honor that belongs to God alone.”

Next week, I’ll be reviewing a book from Frank Viola over on my Lead a Quiet Life Blog. Many of Frank’s writings have encouraged me over the years, and I’ve appreciated being connected with him through social media and the occasional conversing.

What interests you the most about the early church?

Have you ready any of Viola’s works?

Patrick of Ireland is one of my favorite early missionaries. I think that his writings, example, and prayers still have the power to shift and shape us today. I may share more reflections later on Patrick’s sensitivity to the leading of God’s Spirit, but for now, enjoy one of my favorite St. Patrick satires from Lutheran Satire—“St. Patrick the Musical.”

As followers of Jesus, we need to see that ordinary moments are possibilities for the Holy Spirit to do something extraordinary. Each moment is pregnant with the possibility of declaring that the Kingdom of God is at hand, it is within reach. In the gridlock of the day, it is hard to remember and to dream of the possibilities.

“The small things that individual people do - acts of forgiveness, acts of love, acts of service - can be multiplied to millions and millions; they happen every day and are not necessarily recorded or known about…I cannot speak for religion in general, but I can tell you because I have seen it with my own eyes, that faith in Jesus Christ does not do harm - it does an immeasurable amount of good - because we follow the one who 'went around doing good' (Acts 10:38).”
