While following a lot of people can populate your Home feed significantly, sometimes people (like me) end up boosting a lot and that can unexpectedly hinder your own experience.

So if you like someone's specific posts and don't want to follow their boosts, you can go to their profile under the [...] button, and select the "Hide boosts from account" button.

There is no algorithm on Mastodon. You have ownership and control over every filtering decision instead of some robot.

if Twitter has to die it’s gotta take Tesla down with it that’s the only outcome I accept

The latest Mastodon update lets you follow hashtags. When you follow, posts with a tag appear in your timeline automatically.

Try following #Gardening to make posts about gardening appear in your timeline.

This can be REALLY useful for discovering interesting accounts.

To follow a hashtag:
1. Log in through your server's website
2. Search for hashtag
3. Click it to see its results
4. Click on 👤+ icon in top right (click again to unfollow)

Posts from followed tags are visible in the apps too.

So, at T.O.P. (AKA "the old place") I did these Television Showrunner Rules, which I'm committed to turning into a book...in a moment.

In the meantime, I'll repost them here...in a thread.

There are a lot of them...like 259...so I'll do 5 a day until I get to the end.

I hope those who liked them before enjoy the rerun...and maybe some people will come to them new.

(And if you have questions, I'm happy to answer.)

So, without further ado, here they come:

Didn't mean to start this account off politically, but this is important!! Labor relations at the UCs make $160k to deny grievances, which is 3x more than what #UAW is asking for UC workers, and can be 8x more than what grad students make right now. This is unacceptable. Grad students are the most direct link between academia and students. They are asked to be academic support, counselors, researchers, and more. They deserve better.

#UC academic workers are likely to #strike. These workers are responsible for discussions, grading, student support, even lectures sometimes. They do the vast majority of work and are paid a pittance for it. They deserve higher wages and better working conditions, but the UC refuses to engage in good faith. Now 98% have voted to strike.
