The company I've been working for has been doing a little PR push https://www.linkedin.com/posts/anchorzero_exclusive-anchorzero-raises-8m-for-founder-activity-7211360413442035712-3W6_/

It can feel weird, because PR can feel weird, but honestly I'm really proud of the product. I wouldn't have joined a startup if I didn't sincerely believe it was a product that should exist.

If you are at an early stage startup or thinking of founding something, you really really should check us out. I can put you in touch with the team, too!

AnchorZero on LinkedIn: Exclusive: AnchorZero raises $8M for founder Roth IRAs

Exciting news from AnchorZero! We’ve successfully raised more than $8M in seed funding to make sophisticated tax strategies available to everyone. We’ve also…

Loving life in Tokyo and hard to imagine leaving if we can make it work. Who knows what the future holds! Thankfully I really like my current job and really hope to "see it through." But just been thinking about what the job market will likely hold for me/us in the future (esp being in a "weird time zone" etc other factors that make things even trickier!)
I feel like short of a driver or real growth that can fuel a number of new, large companies...is this just the new normal? perhaps that is too pessimistic! but I'm not sure what would make things bounce back besides some new source of value that forces everyone else to play ball. otherwise it feels like google, amazon etc will be happy to "cut fat", which will have effects throughout the tech economy, without any real competition to incentivize them to do anything else

I wonder if the current hiring doldrums in tech are temporary or systemic

experience says "temporary" but on the other hand, it feels like tech has been struggling to find a real engine of growth for a long time. maybe those days are over? VCs set money on fire with crypto, and now are chasing AI, but it's been a while since you had real drivers of growth. at the same time, big companies are taking the opportunity to knee-cap workers. unclear what would change this trend?

how are y'all keeping up with tech stuff these days? twitter's decline has really thrown a wrench in that for me

I know for many of us, tech isn't our "everything" like it may have been when we were younger, but I think that makes it even more important to have some solid sources of information to not fall too far off...

really liking tokyo so far. of course, you never know how things will go, but I'm usually pretty good at predicting these sorts of things...I think that as long as I can get a solid salary in USD working remotely from japan, we probably won't leave for a long time

it's exciting!

@novalis thought I'd ask how programming is going as of late. did you finish that game for your kid?

japan is happening @___@

moving to tokyo in early november @__________@

graphite is phenomenal

not sure how I feel about them being more expensive than github lol but I absolutely love the workflow

I don't know why hating on regex became a meme*. it's so, so useful! so useful

*I actually do have an idea, but still
