defaults write -g NSMenuEnableActionImages -bool NO
It even preserves the couple of instances you do want icons, like for window zoom/resize

@nikitonsky They took the most questionable part of Tahoe – the floating sidebar – and tripled it. Awful.
@mjtsai The Contacts app in Tahoe makes me want to recreate the BeOS People app for Mac.
