@karlrolson joins me on the latest podcast to discuss the early years of this largely embarrassing affair, as well as Teletoon and CanCon regulation. What's old is new again!

Bill C-11 doesn't even open up the same level of restriction we saw with those broadcast regulations. It won't block you from accessing content. Back in the 90s and 2000s, we couldn't access CN or Toonami, but Crunchyroll, HiDIVE and RetroCrush aren't going anywhere.
For those mourning the loss of Teletoon, remember that everything that made that station unique and memorable was the result of regulations similar to those being proposed in Bill C-11. Its downfall in quality was due to corporate consolidation and rollback in those regulations.
It must be stressed that the French-language version Télétoon was the "real" channel and the English-language one was just its dim shadow. And wouldn't you know it, Télétoon isn't going anywhere. It's still chugging along, doing what it has from the beginning!
I see a lot of people praising Teletoon as a kid's broadcaster, but what made it special was the exact opposite. It was pretty much the first animation-focused channel in the Western world that wasn't child-focused. They had an adult line-up five years before Adult Swim!
Good bye, English-language Teletoon. Your programming choices were pretty much always questionable, but I love what you stood for in the early days.
I'll be back at Sakura-Con this year, and currently have three panels lined up:
- Canadian Anime Heritage Minutes
- Retro Shoujo Melodrama
- Blatant Copyright Infringement in Anime
Rooms and times will be confirmed soon!
