I've been in and out of information security professionally, but somehow always have related projects. Mainly working with zeek and network level detection at the moment. SDR, cycling, and climbing enthusiast.

I boost a lot. Topics range far and wide from security and "the cybers" and may include politics, food, humor, science, law, nature, art, and other sundry unsavories. I occasionally post my own projects and thoughts.

Friday’s mass layoffs at the State Department are not just about jobs lost, but a disruption to the institutional memory, relationships, and expertise that underpin meaningful diplomacy.

These career professionals have served under both Republican and Democratic administrations, often in extremely challenging posts around the world, with little recognition and immense dedication. 1/

NEW: Spyware maker Paragon says its $2 million contract with ICE is still inactive and under review, meaning the company hasn’t provided its surveillance tech to the agency yet.

If the U.S. government approves the contract, Paragon will face the dilemma of continuing its relationship with an agency that’s very different today compared to when the contract was signed in 2024.

Can an ‘ethical’ spyware maker justify providing its tech to ICE? | TechCrunch

Analysis: In calling itself an ethical spyware vendor, Paragon has opened itself up to scrutiny of its government customers.

@MLE_online Ooh, that sounds nice.

Regarding my question about keeping my copper phone lines or not, I just saw this which I'd missed before; AT&T has announced it intends to get rid of its copper networks by 2029, assuming regulators allow that. California might be an exception.

In 2024, California said no to its request to get out of its Carrier of Last Resort obligations.

But it's trying again:

⚠️ Confirmed: Live network data show a major disruption to internet connectivity in #Iran, corroborating widespread user reports of issues reaching the global internet; the incident comes just weeks after authorities shut down telecoms during the war with Israel 📉
ℹ️ Update: Internet service has been largely restored in #Iran after a nation-scale disruption; authorities have not issued an explanation; incident duration ~2 hours 📈

@netblocks

Weird... why would they do that now? Are they planning something?

@FediThing they're just assholes and want to cut down our internet permanently

@FediThing @netblocks

Hello 👋 🤗
I am Iranian

and there is no need to worry, Iran's internet was fixed 5 minutes ago back to its previous state

and there is a rumor in Iran that the internet was down because the Iranian leader was returning to the bunker

@LORDX @FediThing @netblocks Was this shutdown by Iran or externally (or do they not say)?
