I'm just a guy trying to figure out why our communities are built in ways that don't serve us, and how to fix it.

Richard and Leah Rothstein have published a follow-up to The Color of Law. This was an instant buy for me. The Color of Law may be the one most important book I've ever read about how American society is organized.

Just Action: How to Challenge Segregation Enacted Under the Color of Law - Just Action

Just Action shows how community groups can press firms that imposed segregation to finally take responsibility for reversing the harm, creating victories that might finally challenge residential segregation and help remedy America’s profoundly unconstitutional past.

Total time getting home was 70 minutes, and that was only that short because I timed leaving the venue to get the stop right before the bus arrived.

Uber would have probably been 15 minutes waiting and 25 minutes driving, so about 40 minutes.

So I sacrificed 30 minutes to save about $30. Which is ok but 70 minutes to get home plus possibly a 40 minute wait kind of stinks. Definitely not "oh I'll default to this mode" type of service.

Update, I took the bus, it was fine, but I had to run across Las Vegas Boulevard to make it in time to the stop because it had MOVED due to F1 construction, and their app didn't mention that.

Kind of important to mention stop closures / movements in the app that you use to navigate given the 40 minute frequency of the bus!

Maybe I'll take the bus home from a work event at a casino tonight! Oh shit it's 40 minute head ways wtf...

Still will see if it works out but wow this is terrible. God forbid we have frequent service to drinking establishments.

What's funny about this post is I have the name filtered so I get a content warning on my own post đŸ¤£

Have seen this with space as well - used to be space was cool and sending things to space was interesting, but now somehow it's bad because Elon.

I wish that idiot could just have remained an aloof person instead of taking over Twitter and showing the world his whole ass.

I'm kind of annoyed that world class bastard Elon is out there proposing replacing parking lots with parks (awesome), and proposing art deco futurist self driving buses (also pretty awesome)...

Somehow people are going to reverse polarize themselves against awesome things just because it's him proposing them, which is very annoying to contemplate.

@DrTCombs Last weekend, two patio tables over from us was a family with small children. A loud car, then a even louder Harley went by and the child's first reaction was "go away". The parent essentially told the child to put up with it, that it was rude to tell someone to go away or stop. Having just listened to a podcast about noise, we really should not have to put up with excessive noise like that. It's an uninvited intrusion. Cities aren't loud, cars (and motorcycles) are loud.
