Kyle Andrews was tidying his shed in Adelaide's north when he came across what he thought was some electrical cable dangling from his car. On closer inspection, he realised it was a battle between two highly venomous species — a baby eastern brown snake and a redback spider.

First observation of the Cherenkov radiation phenomenon in 2D space

Researchers from the Andrew and Erna Viterbi Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Technion—Israel Institute of Technology have presented the first experimental observation of Cherenkov radiation confined in two dimensions. The results represent a new record in electron-radiation coupling strength, revealing the quantum properties of the radiation.

ICYMI This week UNSW spin-off Skykraft sent up the largest Australian-made payload into space on a @SpaceX. At ~300kg the Block II satellite stack is heavier than the combined weight of all the other Australian-built #space objects ever launched.
