Good rundown of the newly signed California immigration laws from Calmatters: https://calmatters.org/justice/2025/09/newsom-new-immigration-laws/

I don't know how well these will hold up against our corrupt SCOTUS, but it's something to hopefully slow Trump's Gestapo and inspire other states.

Most of these new laws go into effect immediately, though the masked police ban doesn't take effect until July 2026--too little, too late.

Screenshotting this beautiful summary of the fundamental intellectual dishonesty and greed behind Gen AI, because I couldn't fit it into a single mastodon post. The whole quote fits into the alt text field, another accessibility victory for all ❤️

uh, what? how does my phone know what plant species I photographed?
ending on a high note with some favorite Van Goghs
Manet / Degas pt 3
pt 2, more from the Met
Manet / Degas exhibit at the Met was rather disappointing; we went to the Annenberg Collection upstairs afterwards as a palate cleanser (ironically a far superior Degas collection, too). Anyway here comes a photo dump with highlights, spread across several posts because of mastodon limits
Another day off, another trip to the Met. Today's new favorites: Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec
Highlight of yesterday's trip to MoMA: Monet's enormous forty-foot water lilies triptych
One more for now, by Clyfford Still. I've seen his work in books and never gotten into it, but seeing it in person (another absolutely enormous canvas) changed my opinion completely. It's quite painterly up close, and almost gives the feeling of shadows cast on the walls of a dark room at night. One of the happy surprises of the exhibit for sure
