Researching and writing about music. Sometimes I edit Wikipedia.

87.7% of all images on my wiki are jpeg. I'm not sure if I ever put any thought into what format I use. Should I?

Also, now that there is 1,928 files I think I'm probably stuck using MediaWiki. Sometimes I think it'd be nice to use something less finicky though...

In a few weeks the ebook edition of my next book will be released. Then the paperback will be out in June/July. I can't wait to see them turn up in some library catalogues!
I've been searching for anyone who has back issues of R'n'B World (later known as AfroStar). It was a RnB/Soul newspaper and sister publication to Go Magazine. Although Go exists in several archives, I've had no luck finding issues of R'n'B World or AfroStar apart from old eBay listings.
Here's two of my favourite posters from the current exhibition of Studio Helmo's work for Jazzdor festival in Strasbourg. I wrote about the exhibition here: https://medium.com/the-shadow-knows/look-at-jazz-jazz-posters-on-display-in-strasbourg-aa886f3f4235
A nice surprise, my book is now available for pre-order! Available 9 July 2026 https://www.bloomsbury.com/au/three-outs-move-9798765122976/
While researching a name in some family history documents I stumbled across Ellis Bankin, a school teacher who liked to take holidays riding his motorbike around the country. Unfortunately, he died when he got lost in the desert, but that didn't stop others from looking up to him. I wrote an article on Wikipedia about him and found some great photos too! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellis_Bankin

Last week I finished uploading some 80+ photos my grandfather and his brothers took in the 1940s when they made and flew gliders around Victoria. They're on Wikimedia Commons and public domain for anyone to use https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Gliding_Club_of_Victoria

After several years of research and a lot of editing, I’ve submitted the manuscript of my next book to my editor. If all goes well it should be out sometime next year.
