@[email protected] You could tackle some of this yourselves. Some parts of a bathroom remodel are tricky—water pipe joints behind walls should be done by someone experienced ‘cos a leak would be catastrophic—ripping out carpet is dead easy: just grab and pull. Installing wood and laminate is pretty easy also. Tile is only slightly harder (though MUCH more physical effort).

@[email protected] I remember when I worked out that suburban road-building expenditures were a giant subsidy to suburban homeowners. Buy the house for x, road gets built/widened, value goes up faster than property tax base, vehicle/gas taxes don't go up at all, etc.
