I make things of metal and code. I do road trips.

My main website is sensitive research (my queer scifi novel [The Delivery]is there), Rambler automobiles, Rambler Lore.

The replies to this thread show a deep uniformed ignorance that’s frankly appalling and depressing.

Language Is a Poor Heuristic for Intelligence - Lemmy.world

Yes! This is a brilliant explanation of why language use is not the same as intelligence, and why LLMs like chatGPT are not intelligence. At all.

(Gifted article, no paywall) Please suppress any tendency to jump to one conclusion or another, this stuff is getting very complicated because the people involved want it that way. Tankies and dirty money… American lefties, shifting alliances and – surprise! – conservative money – essentially marketing/promoting China/CCP interests. Chinese people fine, Chinese government dubious at best, and horrible at worst, like ethnic “work” camps for Uigur people and others. One must be very careful these days …

Arduino Corp is going CLOSED-SOURCE! - Lemmy.world

This is a big deal. Arduino has accepted 32 million in VC money and the new “Pro” boards are not open source,so they won’t be as easily cloned, and code and libraries in the ide could be unavailable to see or modify! And I won’t be using any of these boards.

What a shit! I swear I can’t be surprised and generally ignore his antics but there’s always another, scummier, act.

Dain bramaged by "the algorithm" - Lemmy.world

I just (sadly) realized yet another way the recommendation algorithms were so ruinous and limiting… On that /r/ place, like here, I had my regular and favorite places to visit, and of course there are far more I’m NOT interested in, or annoy me, or worse. So I don’t visit those and all’s well with the world. But I don’t live in a box, and once in a while, I see some interesting post and click on it – and here’s where the ruinous dread feeling comes from – realize now, after reading a random post that happens to be good in a place I generally dislike, the fuckers are gonna feed me shit like I foolishly paused in front of a crazy panhandler that’s now gonna trail me down the sidewalk and tell me tinfoil hat stories. AAAWWWWWW FUUUUUUCK. On the fediverse, you can read a post and… NOTHING HAPPENS! You read a post! Whee! Freedom! No dread! And not automatically sign up for copious amounts of TRULY ANNOYING SHIT GARBAGE. Sheesh. That’s all. Thankyougoodnight.

I have a folder of stuff from 4chan’s earlier days, when moot was still a teen and the bigots and feebs hadn’t overrun the place. Before 2006 mostly. Some don’t fit the “meme” mode exactly though, they were often more oblique responses than just a fuck-you or whatever.
