yesterday we sold slug, the vanagon that we had for 11 years. feels weird to say about a car but it was a big part of our lives for a while and we’re definitely going to miss it.
The stars aligned last night that we already had plans to leave the city, and that the cloudy forecast was wrong, and that the forest fire smoke hadn’t blown in yet. (It’s here this morning…) These weren’t the most vibrant Northern Lights to the naked eye but there was a _lot_ of them.
last month i wrote up some details about slug’s house battery and solar system that i rebuilt in 2020. (as much as documentation for future-me as anything else.)

Slug's Solar System
In preparation for our 2016 cross-Canada trip we installed a basic solar and auxiliary lead-acid battery system under the rear bench in Slug in order to power the DC fridge and charge personal electronics. In 2020 this was upgraded to a lithium battery and a better design located near the driver’s seat.
Electrical components are mounted in a narrow wood box behind the driver seat. The Renogy displays and battery disconnect switch are easily accessible.
