Fast forward to 2023, I’m building a new link organizer to address Pins’ shortcomings (mostly due to API limitation): limited “syncing” capabilities, lack of bulk link management (batch processing), among others. While I’m aware of similar offerings (bookmarking is so last century), I want something mobile-first instead of web-first.
This becomes Interlink’s roadmap:
Testing Interlink with different type of links I saved over the years: articles, apps, podcasts, YouTube videos, etc.
Title and description aside, the AutoFill feature tries to extract more metadata from each link: publisher, author, and publication date.
Must-haves for the first (upcoming) TestFlight build: Tools to import your existing bookmarks into Interlink and export your data elsewhere.
These include support for Pinboard (via @pins) and HTML/Netscape Bookmark File format for browsers (Safari/Chrome/Firefox/etc), link organizers (Raindrop/Linkding), read later services (Instapaper, Pocket).
Manual HTML export can be done at anytime.
Last week I briefly mentioned the new app/bookmarking service I’m working on, Interlink.
I’m aiming for the first beta later this month/early next month. I’ll post a link to sign up for TestFlight as the time comes.
Recently, people have been contacting me about adding support for alternative endpoints in Pins. In case you haven't read: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34062802 tl;dr: Pinboard the service has gone worse over the last year(s) and many are seriously considering to move elsewhere / write their own Pinboard-compatible API for personal use. I've been working on a solution of my own: a new app built on the foundation of Pins for an offline-first bookmarking experience.
