Any discussion or tips on the language filtering / preferences in Mastodon? I'm glad for everyone to have a common space but local and federated timelines are basically useless on this instance unless you can read Japanese or want to google translate toots all day. I did it for a bit and it was entertaining but definitely too much effort for a casual user.

"You get a social network, you get a social network and everybody gets a social network." Current trend pushing networked-topical chat to decentralized servers. We used to just call them IRC servers or forums and bulletin boards but I'm happy to be here experiencing the (hopeful) rebirth. Discourse and Mastodon both running RoR stacks. Maybe we can get some Discodon (Mastocourse?) integration between the two. Would definitely be killer. Sort of a Stack Overflow meets Slack.

Is there a blog from the developers that talks about design decisions along the way? Curious about the drivers for using RoR and other technologies in the mix.
