Presentations on Qualitative Data Analysis with Manika Lamba (University of Oklahoma): Thanking the World. April 13, 2026, 10:00-11:30am EDT, hosted by IASSIST's Professional Development Committee.

Since the 1990s, research on acknowledgment sections in scientific papers has gained momentum, yet a major hurdle remains—data availability. This challenge is even greater for theses and dissertations, where large-scale analysis has been historically difficult.

Since the 1990s, research on acknowledgment sections in scientific papers has gained momentum, yet a major hurdle remains—data availability. This challenge is even greater for theses and dissertations, where large-scale analysis has been historically difficult. In this talk, I will share my ongoing research into these often-overlooked texts, revealing what they tell us about academic collaboration and support networks. I will also discuss my efforts to build a human-annotated dataset, enriching metadata using large language models for dissertation data, and finally sharing my progress and introducing a "new" open-source tool for quantitative coding. Speaker: Manika Lamba, University of Oklahoma

It is our pleasure to present the first issue of the 50th volume of IQ. Over the years, IQ has transitioned into a peer-reviewed publication, offering our community a venue to share their research, experience, insight, and best practices for using information technology and data to support research and teaching.

We are delighted to open the new volume with a special double issue, dedicated to unique challenges of data sharing in the context of qualitative research.

IASSIST 2026 Sponsorship Proposals

IASSIST is seeking proposals to provide sponsorship of regional or local events during calendar year 2026. Events asking for sponsorship should gather data professionals from multiple institutions and may vary in size and scope (from workshops to conferences). These may be established events or new endeavors. We are particularly looking to sponsor regional or local level events that will attract data professionals who would benefit from IASSIST membership, but may not always be able to travel to attend IASSIST conferences. Preference will be given to events from underrepresented IASSIST membership areas such as Africa, Asia/Pacific, Eastern Europe, and Latin/South America. Accepted events will be required to designate an active IASSIST member as the liaison. Generally, this would be an IASSIST member who will be attending the event and although not required, may be on the planning committee or otherwise contributing to the event. Additionally, award funds must be able to be received by an established institutional account not a personal account. Funds may not be used to pay for any individual's costs, such as transportation or honorarium. Proposals are due on April 3rd, 2026 via this application form. Notification of sponsorship awards will be by April 15th. The number and monetary extent of awarded sponsorships will depend on the number and quality of applications received within a total budgeted limit. Sponsorship requests may range up to $1,000 USD. Questions can be directed to Amanda Tickner, IASSIST membership chair at: [email protected]
