During the holidays I experimented with a couple of different smaller container schedulers, because so far I only know K8s, Nomad and ECS. I checked out Portainer, Coolify and Uncloud. What they all lack and what really draws me towards Nomad is the Vault integration. Templating secrets into files and vendoring DB or AWS Credentials takes away a lot of glue-scipting. Reloading secrets from Vault and using a customizable Signal (SIGHUP etc.) also works like a charm.

Zeitgeist App from @marcel is really a hit for me. Sooo fast, no fuzz, no accounts, no splash screen. Just the right amount of features to quickly jot down a journal entry. And especially, no AI 😀

My favorite train travel hack is tethering via USB Cable. Keeps my iPhone charged and the connection feels more stable.

Apparently it is too much to ask of Oracle NetSuite to calculate 23% VAT correctly. It ends up at 1 groszy too much. Since switching to line item based calculation of taxes, these things occur more often.

Over the holidays I refactored my Mac setup to utilize nix-darwin and home-manage. I replaced many packages that I had installed via Brew with Nix packages. The setup feels very clean as I now also have all my macOS system defaults changes saved in a declarative way.

Ich habe heute ein Konto eröffnet und brauchte nur meine eID die ich an mein iPhone gehalten habe. Kein PostIdent, kein Videocall mit einem Dienstleister. 🤯
Dabei musste ich jedoch erst ein Foto meiner eID machen und sie dann von der Banking App auslesen lassen. Komischer Flow.
