I’ve been rewatching Daria. It’s a shame the background music is gone/replaced, but a few iffy jokes aside it still holds up well. One thing that really stands out watching as a 40-something is the parents. It’d be easy to make a show where Daria’s cynical outlook was the product of a bad family or tragic origin. Daria’s parents are imperfect, but loving and they’re committed to their daughter’s success and each other. It’s been a very comforting show to pop on this week.

I'm starting a novel, "Fair Play" by Louise Hegarty, and thinking about accents. Irish is one of my favorites, as a native English speaker. If you're native to another language, do you have favorite accents of your language?

I'm also curious if your country has regional accents (like southern U.S. or northern England) that have been stereotyped as "rural" or "uneducated" or anything else.

Even when Canadian governments do the right thing, they do it as badly as possible. It is infuriating.

Today, BC announced that we’re going to stop doing time changes (good) but stay on DST (bad).
