Spouse just asked me add toothpicks to the shopping list and that reminded me of a quick tip that could help you out of a jam one day

If you've got a wood screw that's stripped out its hole and won't tighten up anymore, you can put some wood glue on a toothpick, jam that in and trim off the end and you'll have a reinvigorated hole that the screw can bite into again

This is an old pinball repair trick that carries over into non-pinball life. One time I had a couple mates over and we were gonna watch a spooky movie, we put the kiddo to bed and as I was closing her bedroom door it just, fell off the top hinge in my hands haha

Stood there holding the door on one hinge all 🦝 honey can you go grab me a couple things lol

Didn't let it hold up our plans, just pulled the door, stuffed the holes full of toothpicks and wood glue, screwed it all back up and went on with the evening, took maybe five minutes and years later it's still holding just fine

Yes, a file full of zero bits transfers faster over USB2.0 than a file full of one bits.

Been at the library a lot this summer holidays, just got back now and thinking about malls and flea markets and libraries

Y'know how you've got that little crow inside you that enjoys the act of Going Somewhere, getting Bags of Shinies, then coming home and examining those shinies, and sometimes you gotta give the crow a treat?

It gives the crow warm feelings of abundance and security, and the mall and the online shopping apps can feed that crow but at the expense of your wallet.

Daughter just filled up two big canvas bags of library books. Overflowing. Swollen. Our rule is she can take as many as she can carry, and we always end up breaking it. Bulging, heavy sacks of shinies.

If you've got a hole in you that could be filled by getting heavy bags of shinies, the library keeps that crow FED. The crow doesn't know the difference between shopping and borrowing, the heavy bags taste the same, it just cares about Bags Of Stuff, it's the same feeling.

A Little Adventure to Go Somewhere and Acquire Stuff. It fills the same hole.

Except the library ALSO feeds the beast that enjoys REMOVING stacks of things from the house and going "Ahh, that's better, bit more room in here now," because after a couple of weeks you've got to take them back

Wir wollen an die letztjährige Konferenz in Leipzig, die tollen Zuspruch bekommen hat, anknüpfen und suchen dich als Sprecherin oder Sprecher. Falls du ein spannendes Thema hast, was du dort vorstellen möchtest, würden wir uns freuen, wenn du dem Programmkomitee deine Idee unterbreiten würdest. This year's conference, nicknamed GOD traditionally, will take place on November 26 in Düsseldorf with training sessions the day before and the usual networking event the evening before.

We want to build on last year's conference in Leipzig, which was very well received, and thus are looking for you as a speaker. If you have an exciting topic that you would like to present in Düsseldorf, we would be delighted if you would submit your idea to the program committee.
